Fridays meeting

On Friday 3rd May, our class presented our videogame ideas through a presentation to the client before we show our games at the Norwich Games festival in June. Before this online meeting, I spent some time creating the presentation we were going to be presenting. Showing what we've been working on, including an introduction to our game, screenshots of some of the levels, concept art, our research that we used for inspiration, design scope and mentions of the software we used during the development. I made sure the presentation included enough information to fully convey what we have been working on and what the development process was like. I added a variety of different screenshots of the unreal project so the client could get a good visual idea of the game. After the other group presented their presentation for their horror cave videogame, we went on to start showing our game. The presentation was mainly shown by Cameron along with Dylan, they started off with introducing ourselves and the game we have been working on, explaining the main concepts of the game such as the narrative, gameplay and the type of genre it was. We then talked more about the story in detail and who the playable character is, along with other side characters/ Npcs who are mostly voiced by the other voice actors. Cam and Dylan went on to explain the opening level of the game, where the game starts with the playable character waking up in their bedroom to the flashing lights and an alarm from an AI, which will lead to the player finding a way out of the room and then going on to discover what was going on. After that, we then presented a slide that shew screenshots of the different levels the player would go through as they progress through the game, including a cafeteria, controls room etc. We also shew some visual concept art of some of the assets that were made using softwares like 3DS Max. Cameron and Dylan also talked a little about the different films and games we took inspiration from to make our game. These were sci-fi/horror films and games like Alien, Deadspace and Prey which gave us the idea to create a game that had a sci-fi, futuristic feel to it. After that, we moved onto talking about the design and scope of the game. Talking about how the design is sci/fi, futuristic and clean. We also talked about how we originally planned to include things like procedural generation for menial things like hallways for more focus on the main parts of the game. Multiple endings were also in discussion to allow more re-playability for the players once they've finished the game for the first time, but we’ve narrowed it down to just one main ending due to the limited amount of time we have developing the game. The presentation then ended showing off other assets that have been made using 3ds Max, showing some assets that I've created recently. As the presentation came to an end, the client we were presenting to was very pleased with the progression we had made over the weeks we have been working on this project. While reflecting on how the presentation, I do think I could've spoke myself about some of the development such as creating some of the assets, but I know speaking during a presentation isn't one of my strong points, however it still went well, and the team covered everything we needed to cover when discussing about the overall development of the project.
